MasjidAl Furugan, the biggest mosque in the island, also known as one of the most beautiful and impressive structures in Ukulhas is located at the center of the harbor and has been the most important in the island since 2007.One may wonder why did the people of Ukulhas choose this land to build a mosque. The rationale behind the islanders choosing this unique location to construct the mosque is said to be, that the people wanted to be completely certain that the mosque was being built on a piece of land with no conflicts or doubts as to whether graves existed or dead bodies were buried on that land since praying on land in which the dead are buried is prohibited in Islam.
Prior to the opening of this mosque people prayed for a long period of time in a meeting hall instead of a mosque, since the old mosque was abandoned due to suspicious of dead bodies buried underneath the mosque. Looking at the outwards appearance of this landmark, the impressive minaret of the mosque adds additional splendor and beauty to the mosque. Which is further enhanced by the in and out gloss painting and exquisite tiling works. Thus, the view standing Infront of the mosque is breathtakingly splendid and provides a picturesque view. The inside of the mosque is clean and tidy, further there is sufficient space for all worshipers from the island and for the visitors as well since the mosque could easily accommodate more than 600 worshipers at a time.
