In the 80s and 90s, the ‘Giraagas’ area was a beach area popular amongst older children and teenagers, the tree was used by them as a platform to dive into the lagoon by jumping and vaulting themselves from the top of the Giraagastree. ‘Giraagas’ was a tree which leaned towards the shore due to strong waves and erosion, the branches of this tree extended up to the lagoon and was of the perfect height for the children and teens to have some fun time. At present, the Giraagas beach is not to been seen, as the Ukulhas harbor was constructed in this area.
