The surrounding waters of Ukulhas is extremely rich in biodiversity and is home for different exotic marine creatures. And even among these areas the Ukulhas shark viewpoint boasts an extremely diverse and healthy population of underwater species such as the Blacktip shark (Uraha-Kalhu-Miyaru), Whitetipreef shark (Olhufathi Miyaru), Sicklefin Lemon shark (Falhu Miyaru), TawnyNurse shark (Nidhan Miyaru), Turtles (vela), Blackspot stingray (Thaara Madi),Feathertail stingray (Naru Nagoo Madi), Spot eagle ray (Vai Fiya Madi) and fishes such as the remora (Attamas), surgeonfish (Vaalan mas), and Red Bass(Raimas), etc.
This feeding act by the sharks lasts nearly half-an-hour and once the sharks have their fill they slowly retreats back to the ocean leaving behind the raving spectators and feeders. Once the shark leaves other creatures such as Turtles, Blackspot stingrays, Feathertail Stingrays, Spot eagle rays and other fishes such as the remora (Attamas), surgeonfish (Vaalan mas), red bass (Raimas)arrives on the scene to enjoy the remaining morsels, ensuring that the spectators are left with unforgettable memories.
It's not only a place to encounter these gorgeous creatures, but it also a place where you can feed sharks and enjoy up close this magnificent predator of the ocean circling and gliding through the shallow waters in order to feed, while you get to watch them in action while standing on the jetty with your loved ones.The feeding time at the Shark viewpoint is between 1500 hrs. to 1800 hrs., however, shark watchers are recommended to reach the feeding spot before 15 to 20minutes, in order to watch the arrival and playful movements of the Sharks. When feeding starts, it’s time to capture the memories of this spectacle by taking pictures and videos.
